Information

GN 1580 Stainless Steel-Nuts / Stainless Steel-Screws are intended for use in hygiene areas. The sealed flange surface enables components to be mounted without dead spaces. The high quality finish as well as the large corner radii and closed surfaces prevent adherence of dirt and facilitate cleaning.

Why Hygienic Design?

Seals, application example

Seals

For the standard parts which are listed in Hygienic Design, seals have the central function of protecting dead spaces, gaps and cracks from the penetration of cleaning fluids or product residues.

For this, a defined pre-tension or pressing of the seals and wipers is necessary for a reliable and permanent seal in the installed condition. Within the Hygienic Design product family, seal installation spaces and seal cross sections are calculated and designed with simulation software, so that the necessary surface compression is achieved on installation and the seal material is not subjected to excess pressure.

A fundamental differentiation can be made between static and moving seals:

Is the static seal, application examples shown below the top faces the mounting surface (sealing ring) and the bottom faces the contact surface (bottom seal), so that the corresponding pressure is achieved by tightening. It should be ensured that all surfaces which make contact with the seal have a surface finish of al least Ra 0.8 µm.

The moving seals on the adjustable sleeve (wiper) and the ball joint (joint sealing ring) of the foot are designed so that they allow adjustment in both height and angle. With these too, the installation space together with the cross section of the seal ensures a gap-free, pre-tensioned seal.

Depending on the version and the type of use, it may be the case that seals may need to be replaced in case of damage or for preventative maintenance. For this, Elesa+Ganter supplies the relevant seals as spare parts or offers these under GN 7600 as standard parts for spare parts.

Linear Roller System

The ML Series Linear Roller System consists of a C shaped steel rail

with internal concave raceways where robust ball bearing rollers travel.

The high precision rollers are lubricated for life and protected with 2Z

seals. Sliders are available with three or five rollers including eccentrics

to adjust the slider’s preload. Both ends of the sliders are equipped

with polyamide wipers to remove debris from the raceway and grease

impregnated felt wipers to lubricate the raceways for long life with minimal

maintenance.

Sliders include a mix of concentric and eccentric rollers. The eccentric

rollers are used to preload the system and eliminate any play. The

preload can be adjusted to suit the particular application. Sliders are

able to carry load and moment loads in all direction. Because one of

the rail raceways contacts more rollers than the other, this direction is

the prefered direction of radial loading. Two small circular marks indicate

the direction of preferred slider loading.

The ML Systems’s C shaped steel rail has internal raceways that are

protected from accidental damage. Similarly, the rollers are protected

inside the rail and under the slider body.

Overall, the ML Series Linear Rail Systems is easy to assembly and extremely

compact.

Features and applications

Clamping levers with eccentrical cam GN 927 are used for rapid clamping and releasing operations. Hereby, contrary to a clamping operation via a thread, these levers permit a torque-free clamping.
The lever has been designed to ensure that its movement cannot exceed the max. clamping position.
There are no loose components since they are all assembled and mounted in their correct order.
The salient points of type A are as follows: The distance between the eccentrical cam and the contact surface is adjustable by means of a fine threaded knurled nut. This allows the max. clamping force to be set by a simple adjustment. In addition this also allows the choice of the preferred lever position in relation to the clamping lever pin.
With these clamping levers with eccentric cam, thrusts of up to 8kN can be reached.

It’s a spectacular order for WINKEL – World Trade Center ‘Teaching the bird to fly’.

WINKEL will be providing bearings and profiles for the construction of the

WINKEL NEWS

was destroyed in 2001, together with four new skyscrapers.

The Winkel bearings will be used in the retractable roof of the more than three billion dollar building.The Transportation Hub is being built on the site of the World Trade Center thatWorld Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York/USA.

It’s a spectacular order for Winkel GmbH: the component and system supplier from the Württemberg town of Illingen will be providing bearings and profiles for the construction of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York. The Transportation Hub is being built on the site of the World Trade Center that was destroyed in 2001, together with four new skyscrapers. The Winkel bearings will be used in the retractable roof of the more than three billion dollar building.

 

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub was designed by Spanish star architect Santiago Calatrava and will provide transit connections to several train and subway lines as well as ferries and connect the various buildings of the emerging World Trade Center Complex with each other. The most striking feature of the building is its futuristic roof: it is made of glazed steel ribs soaring upwards in the shape of a V for more than 50 meters – modeled on the wings of a bird taking flight, according to Calatrava.

 

But that’s not all. To let in sunlight, the entire roof can be opened up to ten meters in the middle – the bird is flapping its wings. In implementing this spectacular project, the project planners are relying on Winkel bearings and U-profiles. Built into the roof of the Transportation Hub, these components make up a robust and durable guide track system that stands up to the extreme loads during opening and closing of the rib structure. The Württemberg company delivered a total of 224 Winkel bearings with flange plates and 445 meters of U-profiles to New York. The Winkel bearings have a special anti-corrosion coating to protect them from the elements.

 

‘Of course we are proud to play our part in such a historic and innovative project,’ says Bernd Rudolph, responsible for the linear components at Winkel. ‘The Winkel bearings in conjunction with the U-profiles are the ideal solution for this difficult task. They can withstand enormous static and dynamic loads, have a long service life and are easy to install and replace.’ The World Trade Center Transportation Hub is supposed to be completed in 2014 – and until then, so Rudolph with a grin, ‘we are teaching the bird to fly.’
